FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) : How To Install The Games Onto Console

There are multiple ways to install games / roms onto the arcade console and below shows how-to independent on what OS you use. The method applies to both PC and Mac just that the application used will be different. The layout of the transfer application looks similar and all you have to do is make sure you "key" in the right information to connect to the console.
However, prior to transfering the games / roms, you have to make sure that the console is connected to your network. All the consoles sold comes with a network dongle and all you have to do is to connect it onto your network.
NOTE: Before you proceed to setup your network, you will need an USB keyboard to connect to the back of the console USB (i.e. to your Raspberry Pi)
Connecting To Your Network

Boot up your console to the main page of the Emulationstation and then use the joystick (or joypad) to navigate to the RetroPie Menu and CONFIGURE WIFI, then hit the "A" button of your console (i.e. center for the bottom 3 buttons).
This will bring you to the menu shown on the left. Select "Connect to Wifi network" and hit "Enter" key (i.e. bottom key located on the left of the console).

Type your Wifi Password (You may need to wait a bit after you finish for the configurations to save).
After it's done configuring, you should see your wifi info in the original menu. Once you see an IP address as shown in figure on right, your console is now connected to your network.

NOTE: Take note of your IP address as you will need it later to transfer your games / roms.
To exit back to emulationstation, select "Cancel"​ and hit "Enter" key (i.e. bottom key located on the left of the console.

Transferring ROM For Windows & Mac

For PC, click on this link to download and follow the instructions to install WinSCP. Alternatively, you can also use Filezilla For Mac, click on this link to download and follow the instructions to install Cyberduck.
After installation, launch the application. For Windos or Mac, follow and type in the instruction as shown

Enter the ip address of your raspberry pi ( that you have previously noted down or press “F4” on the raspberry pi and the cmdline welcome screen will give the ip address to you)

Username is “pi” without quotes

Password is “raspberry” without quotes

SFTP for connection type is fine

Click log in and yes to any prompts
Now you are ready to transfer or upload game files to the raspberry pi. On the right is your raspberry pi setup. Navigate by clicking on the folders RetroPie -> roms. You will see the available systems.

Choose the folder of the system you want to transfer the games to.
NOTE: THE SYSTEM WILL NOT SHOW UP IN EMULATION STATION UNLESS THERE IS AT LEAST 1 ROM IN THE SYSTEM’S ROM FOLDER
For this example we will do nes games, but the process is the same.
Find you local folder that contains the nes “game” rom files. NOTE: THE ROM FILES CANNOT BE ZIPPED. Other frontends are fine with zip files, but they will not be recognized in emulation station. If you want to unzip all in 1 action. Ctrl A to select all of them and right click. With Winrar installed you can press “Extract Files”. All will extract in one folder.
Here is the output of .nes rom files.
Select that folder on the left side of WinSCP and press upload making sure you are in the nes folder (in this example) to transfer the games.
You will repeat this process for all the system you want to add to emulation station.
